Uses / Indications:
In epilepsy It is indicated as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial seizures with and without secondary generalisation in adults and children aged 6 years and above. It is indicated as monotherapy in the treatment of partial seizures with and without secondary generalisation in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and above. It is indicated for the treatment of peripheral neuropathic pain such as painful diabetic neuropathy and post-herpetic neuralgia in adults.
Side Effects:
Drowsiness, dizziness, loss of coordination, tiredness, blurred/double vision, unusual eye movements, or shaking (tremor) may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
How it works:
Gabapentin readily enters the brain and prevents seizures in a number of animal models of epilepsy. Gabapentin does not possess affinity for either GABAA or GABAB receptor nor does it alter the metabolism of GABA.
